The “P” matters. It means the shoe includes penetration or perforation resistance underfoot. What S1P DoesNot Include.

S1P is not the “safe for everything” category. It is not automatically waterproof. It is not a specialist boot for foundry, welding, live electrical work, firefighting, chemical exposure, ankle support, deep mud or heavy outdoor construction unless the site assessment specifically allows that footwear.

If the workplace has wet ground, muddy sites, outdoor construction, sharp heavy debris, specialist hazards or a mandatory PPE list, choose the specified footwear instead of trying to make S1P do a stronger boot’s job.

The job needs S3 or beyond. Wet yards, muddy sites, exposed ground, water-resistant uppers, cleated outdoor soles, ankle coverage or named PPE requirements usually point away from lightweight S1P trainers.
