Does a Mesh Upper Affect Certification?

Not directly. EN ISO 20345 certifies the complete shoe, the toe cap, midsole, heel energy absorption, and anti-static properties, not the upper material by name. A "mesh upper" is a construction description, not a certification claim on its own.

What actually needs checking separately

Water resistance for the upper (WRU, sometimes tested as part of WPA, water penetration and absorption resistance) and cut resistance for the upper (CR) are optional, separately tested markings under EN ISO 20345:2022+A1:2024. Mesh generally offers lower inherent water and cut resistance than leather, but that's a general tendency, not a certified fact for any specific shoe unless the label confirms it.

The reverse also holds: not every leather upper is automatically water-resistant or cut-resistant either, that depends on the specific leather treatment and the shoe's actual tested markings, not the material name alone.
